With the extraordinarly number of several 100 million installed copoies worldwide, Tetris is one of the most successful and well spread computer games of today. The range of users is not restricted to children only, but an increasing number of adults are also playing Tetris for leasure. Without being aware of it, all players constantly train their visual motorical coordination in the area of immediate reaction and attention.
This new second generation audio game called AUTRIS-2 in comparision is a new and challenging comuter game to enhance language competence and performance. AUTRIS-2 is based on a powerful psycho-acoustic concept. It is designed to improve central auditory processing capabilities and language competence and performance.
Game procedures:
In the game the user is challenged to distinguish four different auditory stimuli and to bring them into a timely and spatially order. The signals are perceived via headphones and appear from different directions, for example the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4, but in an unstructured order that needs to be sorted out. By clicking the right buttons on the screen and switching individual pairs of the signals, the user can rearrange the signals and restore the desired order.
Depending on age and training status, the user may choose between up to 50 different difficulty levels and signal-sets. Training with AUTRIS-2 therefor enables every player age 5-95 to improve essential functions of the central brain processing and to fully automate important sublanguage capabilities..
Improvement of:
- Attention
- Discrimination
- Selection
- Spatial hearing
- Pattern recognition
- Sound Discrimination
With a pair of headphones all acoustical images can be perceived undistorted. In addition the player hears all signals such as vowels, syllables, sound and numbers in way as if an actual person was moving constantly in front of him, providing for a constant change of direction. This additionally leads to a profound training of hemisphere coordination.
Additional capabilities that are being trained "on the fly":
- Short term memory
- fine motoric training
- quick computer / mouse skills
The program is provided on CD-ROM (currently only with a German menu structure but generally applicable by English users as most signals are language independent)
